What is this all about?
Who: The idea started with Dan Koperski, a home brewer and amateur beer blogger. After talking about the concept with some of his friends over the past few years, he decided to take action. The Board of Directors are volunteers who are fellow beer, coffee, and tea lovers just like you.
What: The Community Brewing Center is a concept to democratize the act of brewing. Currently there is a vast amount of information about brewing, be it coffee, tea, or beer that is held within the experiences of the professionals that work within these industries, as well as scattered across the Internet. Our main goal is to provide a platform (online and in person) to share this knowledge and experience with the general public in a safe learning environment through demonstrations, classes, and participatory settings.
When: The Community Brewing Center was registered with the state of Oregon and federal government in late 2015. We are currently in process of applying for 501c3 non-profit status and hope to have this in place by the summer of 2016. At that point we will then begin our fund-raising efforts and planning to open the brick-and-mortar physical space the center will occupy.
Where: Currently located on the internet, with ambitions of having a physical space in Portland Oregon.
Why: It doesn’t exist yet, the ability to learn about brewing and the coffee, tea, and beer worlds in one place, while supporting a non-profit. Informed consumers are happy consumers, and the best way to do that is to demonstrate, experience, and participate in the process from start to finish.
How: By providing a centralized location for the public to learn about and consume coffee, tea, and beer, all while supporting local and international non-profits. A portion of the centers profits will be donated back into the local market, supporting the organizations that work towards sustainable (green) growing practices and education.
COFFEE : TEA : BEER – Because sharing is caring!
Coffee: By providing a storefront for micro-coffee roasters to demo their product in as many ways possible. Would you want to try the same coffee bean, roasted differently (on site), ground differently, and served 6 different ways so you can figure out exactly what you like? All for the cost of a simple cup of coffee.
Tea: There is some mystery behind vast nature of tea as one of the oldest consumed beverages known to humanity. We want to lead you to discovering what varieties of tea and serving methods best fit your lifestyle. Does the idea of growing your own tea sound appealing? We want to help you learn how! Ever wonder why a traditional Chinese tea ceremony takes so long? We do too and want you to learn why with us.
Beer: For home brewers and commercial brewers, there are few opportunities to share knowledge and experiences in person. We will provide the opportunity for the public to rent and use our equipment (5 gallon systems to commercial 1, 3, or 5 barrel) and brew beer with guidance from industry professionals. This can happen in small groups or in a class setting. You will have a chance to brew your own beer recipes, or one of ours, all you have to do is pay for the ingredients and rental fees. Ask yourself, how much would you pay to brew with an award winning local brewer? On top of that, our tap-room will allow for consumption of the beer you made after it’s all said and done.
